Book Description:

When Heaven and Earth Changed Places is a sensitive, eloquent book about honor, personal strength, commitment and forgiveness. Le Ly Hayslip, the Vietnamese-American who wrote it, is more than an accomplished author. She's a savvy businesswoman, the director of her own foundation and a survivor with astonishing skill and valor. Her book, which provides an unflinching account of Hayslip's experiences during the Vietnam War, is rich with gripping detail that makes the Oliver Stone movie based on the book, Heaven and Earth, pale by comparison. Le Ly Hayslip's combat experiences, even as a young girl, rival the war-time experiences of the most decorated American Vietnam vets. Le Ly also describes her experiences in Vietnamese prisoner-of-war camps, where she was held not as an American prisoner of war but as a Vietnamese national who was judged to be guilty of treason. The irony is that she was imprisoned and tortured by both the American-backed South Vietnamese and the Viet Cong. More... (© iVillage: The Women's Network)
