Description:
A Patch of Blue's power lies in its narrative voice. The reader
is exposed to the perceptions of an eighteen year old blind girl.
The effect of this narrative voice is freeing; events which we experience
every day are given new meaning as we must perceive them in a different
way. The colour of a person's skin, the appearance of a person's
body or face, these have no meaning from such a perspective. Initial
