Part 1 A multiple-choice exam that covers
the story line and assesses students understanding of the
story. Available at the site below.
Part II An objective part containing matching
items for the final set of vocabulary and multiple choice
items covering literary devices.
Part III An essay. (See Lessons 20-23
for writing lessons and rubric.)
Students will write an essay of at least 500 words that
answers the question, “What can I Know Why Caged Bird
Sings teach us about how people overcome adversity?”
The essay must contain an introduction, body paragraphs,
and a conclusion and should discuss examples of adversity
that are culled from students’ knowledge of the world
around them or personal experience.
