Lesson 16- Chapters 29 and 30

Objectives

  • To demonstrate understanding of the reading
  • To define simile and metaphor and locate examples in the text

Materials

Procedure

  1. Return quizzes and discuss any questions.

  2. Go over highlights of chapter 29.

  3. Read chapter 30 and discuss highlights.

  4. Tell students that good readers notice literary devices in the literature they read. Write definitions for simile and metaphor on chalkboard, and have students write the definitions in the “literary terms” section of their binders. Provide a few examples for students.

  5. Have students work in pairs to locate two more of each from anywhere in the previous reading.

  6. 6. Assign homework: sentences for vocabulary words, set four

Read chapter 31; write vocabulary sentences.
