Lesson 18 - Chapters 34, 35

Objectives

  • To demonstrate understanding of the reading
  • To define imagery and recognize examples in the text

Materials: A list of examples of hyperbole

Procedure

  1. Assign reading check question from chapter 34. Collect and discuss.

  2. Discuss highlights of chapter 34.

  3. Read chapter 35 and discuss highlights.

  4. Write the definition of imagery and have students copy the definition in the “literary terms” section of their binders. Provide a few examples.

  5. Have students work in pairs to locate two examples on their own.

Enrichment Activity

Discuss the allusion to the Rorschach test in the text. Show students examples of Rorschach images and explain. The following site has images used in the Rorschach test. Show students a few images (from this site) and briefly explain to them that psychologists use them to assess patients. As the accompanying text contains reference to genitals, the teacher is advised to use the images only.
