Lesson 22 Human Beings/Human Rights Part II

Objectives

  • To define the term “universal right”
  • To become familiar with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Materials

Procedure

  1. Go over Activity 13, discussing any answers that students were able to come up with. Tell them that the day’s discussion will allow them to answer more questions.

  2. Tell students that today they will read the UDHR.

  3. Proceed to Activity 1: Human Beings / Human Rights Part C

  4. Proceed to “Going Further” section following Part C.

  5. Using the complete text copy, have students take turns reading all parts of the UDHR. Discuss. Ask students why there is still a need for such a document. Have them support their answers to specific examples.

  6. Distribute the copies of the simplified version of the UDHR.

  7. Discuss homework.
