- To define the term “universal right”
- To become familiar with the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights

Procedure
- Go over Activity 13, discussing any answers that students
were able to come up with. Tell them that the day’s
discussion will allow them to answer more questions.
- Tell students that today they will read the UDHR.
- Proceed to Activity 1: Human Beings / Human Rights
Part C
- Proceed to “Going Further” section following
Part C.
- Using the complete text copy, have students take turns
reading all parts of the UDHR. Discuss. Ask students why
there is still a need for such a document. Have them support
their answers to specific examples.
- Distribute the copies of the simplified version of
the UDHR.
- Discuss homework.
