Lesson Unit Plan (continued)
Guided Practice
- Student follows the Expository Reading procedures as
guided by the teacher.
- Student reads one chapter of The Narrative of Frederick
Douglass, in class and completes the Expository Reading
template that corresponds to the chapter reading.
- Student discusses their reading template with a partner
or in a small group.
- Student engages in class discussion for critiquing
their template and dialogue discussion.
- Student writes a five paragraph final essay that corresponds
to the essential question.
- Student edits, revises, and rewrites the essay as required.

Independent Practice
- Student completes in-class assignments (readings and
templates) at home when necessary.
- Student engages in Silent Sustained Reading (SSR) both
in class and outside of class.

Computer Technology
- The teacher will introduce the Internet Web search,
Microsoft word, spell-check techniques for aiding the
students spelling and writing skills.
- The teacher will introduce the “Final-Cut-Pro”
film making procedures.

Closure
- The teacher informs the students that the Expository
Reading, UDHR Quiz, and Essential Question Essay, is designed
to develop their reading, writing, and critical thinking
skills. The student’s are also reminded that the
CSTP and OUSD Standards guide the lesson.
