Content Standards:
The Content Standards prepare the students to think critically,
engage in meaningful dialogue, and write ethical, moral,
and meaningful responses to the essential question.
- Reading Comprehension Standards:
Students will look for markers, e.g. ethical, moral values,
social justice issues, and political aspects of the novel.
- Listening/Speaking Standards: The students
will also engage in meaningful dialogue about how words
are used to humiliate and redeem one's character.
- Literary Responses & Writing Standards:
Students will learn to identify main ideas, use main ideas
to draw inferences, generalizations, and conclusions about
the novel. In effort to strengthen their critical thinking
skills, the students will compose a journal using textual
evidence. They will also compose an employment portfolio
including student resumes, recommendation letters, awards,
an autobiographical piece, and business cards designed
by the student. The mock orals and dress for success interviews
are designed to prepare the student for high school exiting

aid students in developing their critical thinking, reading
